What is the B1/B2 visa?

It is a nonimmigrant visa for temporary visits to the United States. It is usually issued as a single combined visa and covers two types of travel:

  • B1 (business): attending meetings, conferences or trade shows, and negotiating contracts. It does not allow you to work or receive a salary in the United States.

  • B2 (tourism): vacations, visiting family or friends, or receiving medical treatment.

Who can apply?

Anyone with a valid passport who is traveling for tourism or business and can show that they will return to Mexico. The most important factor at the interview is your ties to Mexico: your job, your studies, your family, your business or your property.

Documents we recommend bringing

  • Valid passport.

  • DS-160 confirmation page.

  • Proof of payment of the visa fee and confirmation of your appointments.

  • Previous visa, if you are renewing.

  • Proof of ties to Mexico, for example: employment letter, pay stubs, bank statements, proof of enrollment or property deeds.

In many interviews the officer does not ask for documents, but it is best to bring them organized in case they are requested. We help you prepare them based on your profile.

How long does the process take?

The timing depends mainly on appointment availability, which changes with the season and the consulate. When you start, we tell you which dates are available at that moment.
